The Spring Festival is The Callings' biggest gala of the year, and Raighn's favorite place to find his prey. About to walk out before the evening show ends, he hesitates when a lone dancer begins her performance. Something about her pulls at his heart.
Kassel is told to dance a private show for an unknown patron of the Calling. As she dances for him, she finds herself wanting to follow when he asks her to leave with him. But as a novitiate of the Calling and a Dimoni, she must refuse his invitation.
When Kassel is taken into the Myst, she discovers that the man she had lusted for at the festival was one of the very demons The Calling fights against. Raighn tries to convince her that she belongs with him in the Myst, but her devotion to the Calling tells her otherwise.
Giving in to Raighn means accepting her demon side, but following the Calling means giving him up.
